A company in North Houston is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support financial reporting, month-end close, compliance, and process improvement initiatives within a dynamic, multi-entity organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, strengthening internal controls, and providing financial insights that support business decision-making.
The Senior Accountant partners closely with Finance, Operations, and business leaders to drive efficiency, maintain financial integrity, and support the company's ongoing growth.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Lead month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analyses, and reporting.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, and audit documentation.
- Analyze financial results, identify variances, and investigate unusual transactions.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP.
- Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Technical Accounting & Compliance
- Maintain strong knowledge of accounting standards and ensure compliance across accounting operations.
- Evaluate and determine accounting treatment for complex transactions and contracts.
- Research and implement new accounting standards and prepare technical accounting documentation.
- Support internal and external audits through preparation of schedules, documentation, and auditor support.
- Assist in maintaining and enhancing internal controls and financial reporting processes.
Process Improvement & Financial Analysis
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and other strategic finance initiatives.
- Participate in ERP implementations, system enhancements, and process improvement projects.
- Perform ad hoc financial analyses and special projects as needed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with operational and business teams to support financial and organizational objectives.
- Provide guidance and support to accounting staff and stakeholders across the organization.
- Promote continuous improvement, operational excellence, and strong financial controls.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- CPA designation preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting experience is a plus.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
- Experience with ERP and accounting systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
